Being an independent journalist without the help of a newsroom is tough. Being an independent journalist with no newsroom help AND no corporate backing is even tougher. Welcome to my world. I don’t have either. Everything you see, I do all by myself.
I get that most people who have a following as large as mine cash in by pulling in big sponsorship deals. But I just don’t believe that’s how journalism works. I’ve never reported the news that way. And I don’t plan on starting any time soon. I have been lucky enough to have subscribers like you who believe in my work and help me continue.

Who is “The News Girl?”
The 3 million+ people who know me as “The News Girl” on social media know I have very strong beliefs about reporting the news. I don’t believe in sharing opinions. I don’t believe in hypotheticals. And I don’t believe in BS. I report then news and the facts as they are no matter who it helps or hurts. I have done things that way professionally for 20+ years. Most of that time I spent anchoring the news at local TV stations across the country. But for the last six years – I’ve been reporting the news independently on social media. (If you haven’t seen my TEDTalk about it…I suggest you go watch it right now!)
It's been a wild ride but in the midst of all that craziness it has been extremely rewarding to build the amazing News Girl community filled with curious, engaged, thoughtful people who genuinely want to understand the world around them. I’m here for it. And I’m here for you!!
